No. To open a U-Save account, you must first have an active Popular checking or savings account. If you're not yet a customer, you can open a Banco Popular account online or by visiting one of our branches.
It's designed for people who want to save in an organized and automatic way-especially for planned expenses such as tax payments, back to school, travel, weddings, education, recurring payments, and more.
You must have another Banco Popular transactional account from which funds will be debited and credited to your U-Save account.

The U-Save account will be available in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) both through our branches and via our digital platform. In the British Virgin Islands (BVI), the account will be available exclusively through our branches. You can change the date to receive U-Save funds; free of charge at any time through Mi Banco or at a branch. A charge of $5.00 will apply if you make a partial or total withdrawal of the U-Save in one of our branches and another charge of $5.00 if you receive the money of your withdrawal in a check. U-save withdrawal fees will not apply if your withdrawal is made through Mi Banco. Fees could reduce the earnings on the account, for more details, refer to the Characteristics and Fees of the U-Save account.
Accrues interest if the average daily balance during the statement cycle is $0.01 or more.
The Ahorro Directo service applies to purchases made with your Banco Popular at points of sale (POS). Upon enrollment, the service will be automatically effective.
